Ganesha, version 1

Description

This is the first "final" version of my drawing of Ganesha. "Final" is in quotes because I want to add a background, but haven't decided what to do or when I'll get around to it. So for argument's sake, I call it finished. ^_^

Ganesha is the elephant-headed Hindu god. He is called the "Remover of Obstacles" and is most often known as the Hindu god of Wisdom. He is my favorite deity, and I've wanted to draw him for ages.

The method I used was interesting. I drew the lineart and copied it. Then I colored the copy with Prismacolor colored pencils. (I like to do this so I still have the lineart in case I want to color it differently.) The colors weren't as saturated as I'd like, so I made a color copy of that stage of the process. THEN, I colored over the color copy. This made the colors incredibly saturated and smooth! I then colored his throne, jewelry, and such with gold gel pens. This would have stood out too much if I hadn't colored it twice, but because of the saturated colors, it adds a nice sparkle throughout the drawing without overpowering it. (I just wish the gold gel ink showed up as well in this scan as it does in real life.)

I'm really happy with this drawing. It's definitely my favorite drawing I've done recently. I hope you all enjoy it!
